We, as residents of Georgetown,
urge the District Government to focus on the pedestrian environment
in Georgetown and to rethink its planned “as-is” streetscape for
Georgetown’s Main Streets (especially M Street) before it is too
late and large sums of money are wasted.
We particularly support the
idea of taking a lane of traffic/parking from M Street in order
to widen the sidewalks for pedestrians and allow more space to
grow healthy trees.
We believe that now is
the time for the District to seriously study this option, even
if it means postponing the Streetscape portion of The Georgetown
Project and living with patched sidewalks a little longer.
